Galkayo, a town in central Somalia, hosts many internally displaced people who have fled violence, drought and other climate hazards within the country. It also hosts migrants, refugees, and people from the neighbouring Somali region of Ethiopia seeking better healthcare.
The South Galkayo hospital desperately tries to stay open in a precarious economic situation. It is a vital lifeline for more than 120,000 people in the region, supporting them with various medical services, including treating malnourished children, emergency services, and a maternity ward.
The IRC has supported South Galkacyo Hospital in Central Somalia since August 2013.
